I sing in English, Spanish & Portuguese and play acoustic guitar, percussion and synthesiser. I write and produce songs in many genres including reggae, bossa nova, blues and polka, some performed using a loop pedal

My performing career started in Japan where I lived from 1995 to 1996.

I then moved to South America, spending 5 years mainly in Ecuador, Colombia & Brazil.

Initially I was playing with local blues bands in Bogota but as my Spanish language skills developed, my ears opened to the richness of Latin music.

See a performance of a traditional Colombian cumbia here.

In Bogota, I studied traditional Latin folk guitar and started writing music in Spanish & Portuguese.

When I returned to England in 2001, I was invited to play with local Latin bands including Los Que lo Dan, Nuevo Castillo & Pe Na Rua.

A highlight of this work was getting to jam with Roberto Fonseca & his band.

In 2012 I was invited to write music for a show and tour it with Baretoed Dance Company.

This tour was quite an inspiration…see a montage of the making of the show here.

It involved learning to use a loop pedal which then became a great composition and performance tool.

It led my into studying physical theatre & clown.

Clown became a strong influence on my performing and writing style which often uses humour to address difficult subjects.

From 2017 I have worked with MiHC (Music in Hospitals and Care), giving concerts in care settings such as hospitals, care homes etc.

This suits me well as I have always had a parallel career in caring/healing work (i worked as a shiatsu practitioner, yoga teacher & practise co-counselling).

This work in care settings was an inspiration to delve into music beloved of older generations, especially jazz standards.

I have pursued this interest in jazz and recently enjoyed performing with jazz duos, trios & a quartet. See a performance of a jazz standard here.
